Today we had our first Doctor appointment and found out that our little "gummy bear" is developing nicely. Gummy Bear is what the doctor referred to the sonogram picture as. :) We were able to see the heartbeat and it definitely hit me that it was for real. With Caitlin it didn't really hit me until after she was born. We brought Caitlin with us and while she didn't understand what was going on, it was nice to have her there. It was an interesting feeling going back to the doctor where we spent so much time before Caitlin was born but this time bringing her with us. Hard to describe. :) Right now they are estimating that Toni is between 6 week and 5 days or a full 7 weeks depending on the measurement. The Doctor thinks she can give us a more definite answer at our next appointment in 2 weeks. :) Right now the due date is between 12/20/10-12/23/10. Because Toni got diabetes during Caitlin's pregnancy, they're pretty sure she'll develop it again during this one. Because of that, they will be inducing labor at 38 weeks as they did with Caitlin. If they follow the same pattern they did with Caitlin, that would put this baby as being born on 12/11/10. :) It looks like Toni is going to have a lot more tests this time around as well. Even though they saw no problems, because of the diabetes during the pregnancy with Caitlin, she'll be going though a lot more tests and being treated again as a high risk pregnancy. She has a couple of tests to undergo for diabetes and a preliminary for down syndrome to do in the next couple of weeks. They are already scheduling an appointment with another specialist in 4 weeks as well.. It's all a little nerve-racking and I think we are both pretty nervous at this point. Hopefully everything will go well and a couple of weeks before Christmas we'll be welcoming a happy, healthy baby into the world. Once again, I think it's gonna be a girl, Toni thinks it'll be a boy. We won't find out until around mid summer.
Based on today marking the end of week 7, we will start week 8 tomorrow. Here's what's going on: http://www.babiesonline.com/pregnancy/week-by-week/week8.asp
