No more ear infection!

This week went pretty smooth. Emma had a Doctor appointment and everything looks good and her ear infection is all cleared up which is great news. She's doing really well and is even up to sleeping about 7 or 8 hours a night which is awesome! Some nights she still wakes up at 3 or 4 but overall we're getting a lot more sleep than we were. She's getting pretty big now and isn't really fitting into her 0-3 month clothes anymore. Usually we're having to put her in either 3-6 month or even 6-9 month clothes depending on the brand. She's smiling at us all the time now and will sit and watch us when we're in the room with her.

Caitlin had a good week as well. She had a field trip to an indoor playground that she seemed to enjoy. Toni was able to join her for lunch for that which was nice. This weekend we took Caitlin for a walk down the street to the park and it was amazing how fearless she is! She wanted to climb everything! I climbed with her to make sure she didn't fall but she did great! She had a good time and when we got home she wanted to play more out on her swing in the back yard. Other than that, she's doing good. Her potty training is coming along and while she still has some off days, for the most part she's doing really well.

This weekend we also did some work around the house. I stripped all of the caulk off of our shower and replaced it (it looks so much better now!) We also started cleaning out the garage. Caitlin was a great little helper and enjoyed helping Toni sweep. She especially loved the plastic flowers that we found in the garage. She put them in her halloween pumpkin (what she calls her pumpkin patch) and kept thanking Toni and I for her flowers and telling us how much she loved her flowers. :)

All smiles

This week was quite a bit quieter than last week. Emma has started smiling a lot which is so cool to see. She also watches us and will even try to turn her head to see what's on tv! Caitlin continues growing and the ammount she says continues to amaze me. Some of her favorite things to say are:
"I love you too"
"I like your car"
"I love my baby Sister. Emma's so cute"
She understands pretty much everything we say now and we can carry on a conversation with her most of the time. She's growing up so fast!

This week we decided to take Emma's 2 month picture and Caitlin wanted to get in on the action. We got some pretty good shots as you can see. This week also saw Emma starting to sleep anywhere from 5-7 hours a night which is a welcome change. The only other thing to report this week is that we got the girls a stroller that they can both fit in. Caitlin wasn't in the mood for pictures but she seemed to enjoy the stroller. Hopefully it'll make things easier when we go out. I'm going to keep it short this week but I hope everyone has a great week!

My 39th birthday...

Well, if this is what middle age birthdays are like, I'm worried! This week started out alright and on Tuesday I celebrated my 39th birthday. I expected to be really bothered by 39 but surprisingly, it didn't bother me too much. Looking back, 29 is still the hardest age I remember turning. I think I'm in a good place in my life and age isn't really an issue.. :) This week Caitlin went on a field trip that Toni joined her on. They went down to the Children's Museum and Caitlin seemed to have a lot of fun. The week was going along great until Friday afternoon..

Friday I left work early to take the girls to the Doctor. Caitlin had been acting like her ear was bothering her but the Doctor could find no problems. She was so grown up when we were at the Doctor. She went and stood on the scale all by herself (she weighs 34 pounds) and was very helpful with Emma. Emma had her 2 month checkup and the stats were pretty impressive:

Weight at birth: 7 lbs 11 oz. At 2 months: 12 lbs 3 oz.

Height at birth: 19.5 inches. At 2 months: 23.5 inches

She's doing very good on her growth and the Doctor was happy with everything except her ear infection. She's been taking medicine for over a week and it hasn't cleared up her ear infection so the Doctor decided to put her on new medicine. Emma didn't like having her ear examined and got very fussy so I picked her up and was patting her back trying to calm her down and then it happened.... In her anger, Emma swatted her hands and hit me in the eye! I actually felt her fingernail on my eye which obviously hurt more than you can imagine. My eye was hurting a lot but I was able to at least open it. It wasn't until about 2 hours later that the problems started. My eye started hurting more than I've ever felt and everything from blinking to moving my eyes with them closed hurt. It felt like a cat was scratching my eye every time I would blink. Once the sharp shooting pains started, we decided it was time to go to the clinic. The Doctor was shocked by how bad the scratch was and Toni was even able to see it. The numbing drops they used were awesome but unfortunately didn't last. They gave me a prescription for some ointment and we went home. I spent the night in constant pain and got very little sleep. By 2:30 Saturday afternoon I couldn't take it anymore and we went back to the clinic. They found that it was healing but had a ways to go. Another round of numbing drops were a godsend!

Saturday night we had planned on having dinner at Sarah and Dan's but with my afternoon spent at the Doctor, it was late afternoon by the time we got home. We stopped by their house and had some awesome food that Dan had made with his smoker and hung out for a little bit. Saturday night was a little easier to sleep and we woke up Sunday hopeful that things were getting better. And then we discovered that Emma is allergic to her new medicine! As you can see in the pic, she got very red on half of her face. We called the on call Doctor line and by the time they called back, everything had cleared up. She wasn't running a fever but we kept watching her throughout the day. In the afternoon she had another quick outbreak which cleared up in around 30 minutes. She's now on new medicine and hopefully that'll clear things up!

Overall it was a hectic week that I hope not to repeat! Hopefully this week will be a lot better. Today for Valentine's Day we exchanged cards and got the girls some stuffed animal dogs that Caitlin especially seems to like. Caitlin got a lot of cards and candy at school that she was very proud of and she keeps telling us that she likes Valentines day. :) Both girls are growing so fast, Caitlin is talking so much and Emma started smiling a lot this week! I hope this week goes smoother than last week and that everyone has a great one!

Snow!

What a week! This week (on Friday) I saw snow for the first time in 25 years! It was so cool to look outside and see everything dusted with snow. Being in south Texas we obviously didn't get a lot of snow but it was nice that we got some. Caitlin had a blast playing in the snow! At first she wasn't very interested in going outside until I told her that snow is what Frosty the Snowman is made out of. Once she heard that, she wanted to outside immediately! She kept saying how pretty the snow was and wanted to see what it felt like. Then her favorite thing to do was to walk around and look back at her footprints! She had a lot of fun and it was so cool to see the amazement in her eyes! This being Texas, the city was promptly shut down and work was cancelled.

I was already planning on taking the day off to take care of Emma so it worked out nicely. On Wednesday night Emma started getting a bad cough and started coughing so much that she started spitting up. She had a lot of congestion and seemed to be getting a cold. She didn't have a fever but during the night she started seeming worse and seemed to be having a hard time breathing with her sinuses clogged. On Thursday I took her to the Doctor and it was found that she had a lot of congestion in both her nose and chest. On top of that, she also had an ear infection in her right ear. The Doctor was pretty concerned and told us to keep an eye on her and monitor her temperature. Emma never got a fever but still has a cough and has spit up a little here and there but is definitely improving.

Sunday was kind of a bummer for me. The Steelers lost the Super Bowl. Not the outcome I would have liked but you can't win them all.. Tomorrow I'm taking the day off for my birthday. I'm turning 39 tomorrow which doesn't seem possible but it doesn't really bother me. I've got a great life right now and wouldn't trade it for anything. Hope everyone has a great week!
