Sitting on her own!

This was a busy week which saw Emma start sitting up on her own! She's not to the point where she can get into the seated position by herself but once we sit her up, she's able to balance for long periods of time now! I think she still prefers to stand though and is doing really well with that as well! I made a mistake on last week's post when I said that her Doctor appointment was on Friday, it's actually not until tomorrow during lunch. Toni and I are going to take her in and hopefully they'll have good news. We're a little more relaxed about things if she needs tubes put in though after talking to my friend Mike who has a kid who had it done and it was no big deal. :)

Caitlin is continuing to do well. She's now playing around with my Nintendo DS and loves all things electronic. Her and Emma both love reaching out for my phone and Caitlin even knows how to scroll through pictures and even open certain apps that she wants to play like games. She really enjoys reading on my ipad. We have a Winnie the Pooh book for the ipad and she really enjoys reading before bed. Actually, she enjoys flipping the pages and checking out the drawings but we'll get there with reading soon enough. :)

This week we got a new scissor stroller for Emma. It's so much nicer than the old one we used to have. The old one was so short that I had to hunch down to push it and a lot of the time I just left it at home because it was so uncomfortable to use. The new one is a lot easier to use. In one of the pics, Caitlin was enjoying pushing Emma around the house. :) This week I also took a day off work to spend the day with my friend Mike who was in town for his 20 year reunion! We had a good time and it was great to catch up with him. :)

This weekend I also had my first paying crown molding job! I did a powder room which I think came out really nice. I'll probably be doing the rest of his house soon as well. I'm still not sure how often I want to take on projects but it's an idea I'm throwing around. We'll see...

I'll try to put a quick update after tomorrow to let everyone know how Emma's appointment goes.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day everyone! This week went pretty good. We took Friday off work and went to Austin for the weekend for a wedding. The wedding was nice and the mini-vacation was a nice getaway. With the exception of the traffic/highway system in Austin, we both liked the city. :) It was nice for the girls to be able to see family and Caitlin had a lot of fun with Grampa Andres. Anytime he would leave the room she would ask Toni and I where he was and if he was coming back soon. I think he really enjoyed seeing them as well. :) I had a pretty good day for my first Father's Day as a Father of 2. :) The girls got me a Kindle and a picture frame that says "Best Dad Ever!" :)

Caitlin had a ton of fun at the pool at the hotel and loves jumping in for me to catch her and started playing a new game where she would throw a small leaf into the pool and then jump in and try to swim around and find it. I think we'll have to take her swimming every chance we get since she enjoys it so much. :) We did have one unfortunate event by the pool though. Caitlin was standing by the pool on Saturday and a wasp landed on her nose and stung her cheek! I was most concerned about her being allergic to them but it turns out that thankfully she's not. She was scared and said her face hurt but a little snuggle time with mommy and a Popsicle and she was back to her old self. :)

At the wedding she had a lot of fun. She was running around the dance floor for a long time dancing and enjoying herself. At one point the pace of the music picked up and she got excited and said "yeah!" She must have danced for at least 45 minutes. When the dance floor was only open to the wedding party, she was sitting on the floor nodding her head to the music and enjoying herself as well.

This week should be busy. I'm on call this week and then on Wednesday my lifelong friend Mike is coming to town. Friday we have Emma's appointment with the specialist which we're both a little nervous about and then on Saturday I'm doing some crown molding for a co-worker. Should be a busy week!

Emma turns 6 months old!

This was a very busy week for us in the Vargas house. Emma turned 6 months old this week! We took her for her 6 month appointment and came away with mixed feelings. Emma's ear infection is still present and we have an appointment with a specialist on the 27th. It's looking all but certain that we'll need to have tubes put in her ears. :( She's doing great otherwise though and is getting stronger every day! She loves standing up and it seems like every day she's able to stand for longer and longer times. She's also doing great on her growth and is in the 91st percentile for both height and weight! Here's her stats from birth and 6 months:
Height: 19.5 inches at birth/27 inches tall at 6 months
Weight: 7lbs, 11 ounces at birth/18 lbs, 8 ounces at 6 months!
She's getting so big! She started out 1 inch shorter and 1 pound lighter than Caitlin and is now half an inch shorter and half a pound heavier than Caitlin was at 6 months! She's litterally outgrown all of her 3-6 month clothes and we now have her wearing 12 month stuff!

On the morning of her appointment we stopped by the school for breakfast with the kids. Caitlin was really excited the we stayed to have breakfast with her and she even wanted to go to the Doctor with us so we took her with us. She's doing great in her new classroom and she's getting more mature every day.

Nana Bev stopped by to see the girls one night this week and brought them some beautiful new dresses. You can see them in the pic of the girls sitting together on the chair. Caitlin loves her dress and is definitely not a tomboy. She loves putting dresses and sandals on and will run over to us and ask us if we think she's pretty. :) This weekend Aunt Cuqui, Uncle Fernando and Cousin Lissette came over and Caitlin had a lot of fun with them. We had a cookout with our grill on our new patio with everyone including family from Austin who also came down for the day. After the cookout we went to the pool. Caitlin had a blast at the pool. She was wearing her floaties and was enjoying swimming with me and after no time she was jumping into the pool for me to catch her. It was a lot of fun. :) Sunday we took a trip downtown and went to the riverwalk. We took the boat ride and Caitlin seemed to enjoy being on the boat and seeing the ducks. Emma wasn't as interested as Caitlin was but we had a good time. The girls got some nice stuff from their Aunt and Uncle at the Disney store, Caitlin was so excited with her Rapunzel dress that they got her to wear for her birthday. She looks so pretty in it.

This week should be very busy. Toni's Dad is coming down in a couple of days and we've got a wedding Saturday. Hope everyone has a good week!

Pedal power!

Last week was a fairly slow week for us. I got to spend some time with the girls one night while Toni went to a concert with her Sister and Brother-in-law to see Michael Buble. She said they had a lot of fun and I had fun hanging out with the girls. Caitlin is continuing to grow and this week started pedaling her bike for the first time! It was cool to watch her ride around the kitchen in circles. She was so proud of herself, as were we! She's growing up so fast! She's pretty much potty trained but we still use pullups at night just in case. But overall, she's doing great with the potty training. This week she's also transitioning to her new classroom - the Pre-K 1 room! She'll be in that room for the entire time that she's 3 and then will move to the pre-K 2 room for 4 year olds and then it's off to Kindergarden!

Emma's doing awesome as well! She's eating her rice cereal and orange vegetables pretty well. She's also officially rolling over from her back to her stomach now as well! She loves to interact with us and will smile and laugh whenever we're around. She's also reaching for stuff now and is really trying to explore the world around her. She's not quite sitting up on her own yet but she definitely enjoys both sitting and especially standing. This week she'll turn 6 months old and we have a Doctor appointment for her. I'm hoping that her ear infection has cleared up and that we will be able to cancel the appointment at the end of the month with the specialist.
