Easter egg hunt!

As usual, it's been a busy couple of weeks around the Vargas house. I'll try to recap all the pics in this post. A couple of weekends back the neighborhood had an Easter egg hunt. The third pic is the girls posing in their Easter dresses. Caitlin was adamant about making a "scary face" so the pic you see is the best one I could get. The girls had fun but neither of them wanted anything to do with the Easter Bunny. I managed to get a pic with Emma but Caitlin wouldn't go near it. Watching the Easter egg hunt was like watching vultures descend on a dead coyote. There were a few times that I thought some of the parents might trample the children to make sure their kids got their eggs. There were a few nice people there though and a couple of them even gave Caitlin and Emma some of their eggs that they had gotten. Caitlin managed to get a few on her own as well which she shared with Brooke and Emma. Luckily the Easter Bunny also came to the park near our house and left eggs for the girls there as well. They had a lot of fun finding them all there as well. It's a lot of fun watching the sense of wonder in the girls. :-)

We also went on a field trip to the zoo with Caitlin's class. We took Emma with us as well and they had a lot of fun. I think both girls enjoyed watching the monkeys the most.

I've included a picture of Caitlin's writing. She's doing really good and we're very impressed with her progress. I can't believe that in about 3 weeks we have to go to register her for Kindergarten! She's told me that she doesn't want to go to the big school and that she's happy where she is. Hopefully she'll warm up to the idea soon.

I've also included pics of the girl's "Easter" trees. After this, I'm not sure what holiday to decorate them for. The 4th of July is still pretty far off so I'll have come up with something. Caitlin's also moved up to the big girl swing as you can see. She hasn't learned how to swing on her own yet but she's enjoying the new swing she's using. Other than that, things have been busy. Progress on Caitlin's bed has stalled for now. I just haven't had the time to finish the sanding. Hopefully I'll be able to get it done in the next couple of weeks.

Building the bed

This was another busy week around the Vargas house. Most nights during the week I spent an hour or 2 working on Caitlin's new bed. It's turning out to be a lot more work than I anticipated and I think it's going to be at least 2 more weekends before I'm finished. I'm customizing the plans quite a bit to make it more along the princess theme so that's a lot of the reason for the added time. Early in the week I assembled the bed in the dining room downstairs to dry fit everything. Luckily I did because I did find 2 little things that needed adjustment. The bed is extremely solid and I think Caitlin will get several years of use out of it. When she first saw it, she asked me how she was going to get in and out of it since it was so high. Once she started playing on the ladder, she told me that it wouldn't be a problem. :-) I've got about half of the parts sanded with a new sander I got during the week. It's really helping speed things up. I have a feeling that in 2 years when I build Emma's bed, things will go a lot faster.

Thursday Emma stayed home sick with a fever. Caitlin stayed home to help me with her and by early afternoon the fever was gone. Emma told me that her tummy hurt and that she wanted to take a nap. Then she went and laid down and slept for about 4 hours. Sleep and Tylenol seemed to do the trick and she was back to herself by the afternoon.

This weekend we just stayed home. Yesterday the weather wasn't very good and with the time change last night, everyone's schedule is off. Today we went to church and to Jim's for breakfast. Overall, we had a good day. :-) This weekend I also decorated the girl's Christmas trees for Easter. Neither of them wanted to take their trees down in January so we decorated them for Valentines Day. Since Valentines Day has passed, we decided to go with the next holiday. :-)

Busy, Busy, Busy...

It seems like every time I turn around weeks have passed since I updated the blog. :-( Things around the Vargas house have been busy. Since my last post, we celebrated my 41st birthday. The girls are doing great. Caitlin is writing letters and numbers very well now and knows how to spell her first name now without help. She's doing so good! Emma is learning quickly too. I built the girls a frame around a metal board and they enjoy playing with their magnetic letters on it. Emma actually knows most of her letters when we ask her and she even will sing her ABC's and count as high as 10!

Right now my nights are being kept busy with building a new bed for Caitlin. I'm building her a loft bed which should be nice when it's done. The picture above is of the foot board of the bed. I've still got a lot of work to do but it's going to be nice when it's done. She'll be about 4 feet off the ground so she'll have a nice area under the bed for a fort, desk or storage. I'm going to try to make it look like a princess bed. Hopefully it'll come out nice. Her favorite color is blue so we're going to paint it blue and white like Cinderella's castle. She seems very excited and even asked me to put in a staircase and a slide. I'd love to do that but unfortunately neither would fit in her room. :-(

Unfortunately I'm going to keep it short tonight but I wanted to get something posted since it's been a while. Hope everyone is doing great!
