Where has the time gone???

 

It seems like yesterday that I was updating the blog and telling myself that I was going to stay on a weekly update pattern! Then life happened! Needless to say, we've been extremely busy here. I'll try to give a brief update of October. The girls are doing great, Caitlin got her first report card and is doing extremely well. She's getting better at reading every day and loves school and her teacher! Emma wants so much to be like big sister and keeps telling us that she wants to go to Caitlin's school. This month we had a couple of field trips. Emma went to the Pumpkin patch and Caitlin went to the Children's Museum. Me and Nana were able to go on Caitlin's with her and it was a lot of fun. Although unleashing 100 5 year olds in a children's museum did make it quite frenetic and the time seemed to go by in the blink of an eye.

Halloween was a lot of fun. We went over to Sarah's house and all of the kids went trick-or-treating. They all seemed like they had a really good time. The only other news to report is that this month saw job changes for me and Toni. I was promoted and Toni will be managing a property that is pretty close to the house. I think the change will be good for her and she won't have the hour+ commutes that she currently has.

Getting into the groove

I'd like to say things have slowed down in the Vargas house but that would be a lie. As usual, time seems to be at a premium but I can say we've at least started getting into our new routine. Caitlin's first month of school has gone very well. She loves school and is doing really well.Toni and I have both stopped by to have lunch with her which she really enjoyed. The school even had a breakfast with Grandparents so Nana Bev was able to have breakfast with Caitlin one day too. :-) 

Besides school, this month we had fun going to Brooke's 5th birthday. The girls had a lot of fun at the place. It was at a place that had a lot of inflatable bouncers. They both had a lot of fun but neither of them wanted to get on the big slides by themselves so I ended up going on a lot of them with them. :-)

Emma is doing great as well. She keeps telling us that she's a big girl and wants to go to school with Caitlin. We're now getting ready for Halloween and Emma has discovered "It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown". It's now her favorite show! :-) I'm going to keep this post short but I wanted to get some pictures posted. Hope everyone is doing great!

First day of school!

 

 

 

Last week was a big week for us. Caitlin started Kindergarten! After going to a "meet the teacher" meeting a couple of days before the first day, Caitlin's worries about going to a new school vanished. She was very excited to be starting school and so far is doing great. She loves her school and comes home excited every night. Traffic was horrible on the first day so I actually had to get out of the car and walk Caitlin to class while Toni tried to find parking. I took her into her room and she immediately sat down and started coloring. She had a great first week and I think she's going to have a lot of fun. Emma keeps telling me that she can't go to Caitlin's school because she's little and has told me that she doesn't want to get big.

 

Over the long weekend we took the girls to the park so they could ride their big wheels and play at the playground. Caitlin rode and Emma kind of dragged hers. She doesn't quite have the pedaling down yet. :)

 

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We're looking forward to experiencing Kindergarten through Caitlin's eyes this year. I think she's going to really enjoy it. :)

Shiloh "Bear" Vargas

It was a sad morning today in the Vargas household. Today we said goodbye our dog Shiloh. Shiloh joined our family in August of 2002 when we adopted him from the Animal Defense League. Ironically, many of the pictures of Shiloh in the car were taken exactly 11 years ago today on a ride to the park. Caitlin is extremely sad and telling her that Shiloh had passed was very difficult. She kept telling us that Shiloh is her best friend and has been with her for her whole life. Shiloh was a great dog and a big part of our household for over a decade and will be missed. We keep telling Caitlin that Shiloh's now in Heaven playing with Papa.

 Every time I turn around lately it seems like another month has passed that I haven't updated the blog. :-( I really need to find the time to keep up with it more! Especially considering that we're about to embark on the next great journey in the Vargas house. Next Monday, Caitlin will be starting Kindergarten! This coming Friday we get to go meet the teacher and see her classroom. I think we're all filled with mixed emotions right now. Toni and I are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that Caitlin is already 5 years old and is going to school already. It really doesn't seem possible that we could already be at this point! Caitlin has gone from not wanting to go, to being excited about going, and back to not wanting to go. The other night she came home crying and wanted to sit on my lap. I asked her what was wrong and she told me that she doesn't want to go to the big school because she's afraid. I'm sure by lunch the first day she'll be super excited though. :)

This month has flown by. We celebrated Cousin Ryan's 2nd birthday and took a trip to the Zoo with Nana Bev. I'm taking this Friday off to spend the day with the girls. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we'll be able to have a nice last day of Summer together. I'm going to keep this post short but I wanted to at least get some pics up this week. I'll definitely post next week to talk about Caitlin's first day of school!
