Our family

This was another busy week for us. Caitlin continues to talk more and more every day and today she helped Toni make cupcakes! She even put the frosting and sprinkles on some of them. The ones she did were light on frosting and heavy on sprinkles! :) Emma is doing good and her first week of school was pretty uneventful. Toni had a hard time emotionally the first 2 days dropping her off at school but I think she's having an easier time now. Caitlin had a couple of exciting days at school with potty training. Some days it seems like she's really getting it and then others not so much... One example would be one night during the week when we were trying to get her to go to the potty and we kept telling her not to potty in her pants and that if she needed to go, she needed to go to the toilet. We took her several times but she wouldn't go on the potty. Somehow she got the idea that pulling her pants down and squatting behind the chair and pooping on the floor was a good idea though.. She was very proud of herself and kept pointing at the pile of poop saying, "I did it daddy!". Then we she figured out that pooping on the floor was not good, she decided to run away from it which would have been fine if she hadn't stepped in it.... Yes, that was an exciting night......

Sleep is still a rare commodity for us. Emma seems to wake up anywhere from every 2 hours on a bad night to every 4 on a good one.. I took Thursday off work to just stay home and try to get some rest but sleeping during the day is hard for me so I didn't get any sleep but I did get to just chill. This weekend we went to our friends Jeremy and Lyndsey's daughter Kayla's first birthday party. It was good to see them and I can't believe a year has already gone by! Time flies! Caitlin stayed to herself and didn't want to play with the kids and Emma slept the whole time but we had fun.

This week should be another busy one. Caitlin has a field trip down to the Children's Museum on Wednesday which should be fun. Toni is going to take the day off to go with her and I may go if it works with my schedule. Hope everyone has a great week!

Superbowl!!!!

This was quite an exciting weekend which saw the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the New York Jets to advance to the Superbowl! Now the Steelers have made it to the Superbowl for both Caitlin and Emma's first Superbowls! I'm not a superstitious man but if they happen to win it like they did a couple years ago, I just might have to talk Toni into going for at least 4 or 5 kids just to keep the streak alive! NOT!!!!!

This week was pretty tiring. I was on call and between the pager going off and one or both of the kids waking up in the middle of the night, sleep was very hard to come by. I'm starting to get to the point that I'm so tired that I can't sleep if that makes any sense. I really am looking forward to Emma sleeping through the night so I can start exercising again and not feel like a zombie all the time. :)

With Emma turning 6 weeks old last Friday, today she started school! Toni dropped the kids off and said she had a hard time and started crying. I think Caitlin was excited that her baby sister was joining her at school. :) Overall, Emma's doing good and Caitlin is doing great with potty training. She's still not to the point where we're willing to throw away her diapers but she's getting there. Caitlin continues to amaze me every day and this week was no different. This weekend she brought her toy guitar into the room and told me that she was going to sing the abc song and proceeded to sing her abc's all the way up to about the letter Q!! I was totally blown away. Hope everyone has a great week!

1 month old!

This was another busy week for us. On the 10th Emma turned 1 month old! Time sure is flying by! This week Caitlin started telling us her first and last name! She calls herself Kate-in Bargis and her baby sister is Emma Bargis. It's cute to listen to her and it's amazing how much she's talking and how fast she seems to be picking things up. The other day she told me that Santa brought her her toy kitchen that she got for Christmas. Potty training is going okay with some days going better than others. I think she'll get it down pretty soon.

Emma is doing well and even had a few nights where she slept almost 5 straight hours but that's not happening consistently yet. She's usually up every 2-3 hours during the night. Toni's been getting up with her most nights since I'm back to work but starting next week she'll be going back as well. Time is definitely going fast and it doesn't seem like Emma could possibly be turning 6 weeks old next Friday! Caitlin seems pretty excited that Emma will be going to school with her and even knows which room Emma will be in!

Back to work....

This was a pretty busy week. I went back to work this week was made more difficult functioning on very little sleep! Toni got up with Emma most nights so I could try to sleep but Emma still has her days and nights confused and if anything, I think she's waking up more during the night than she was before! Monday was especially hard at work but I was able to get through. Toni will be home for a couple more weeks with Emma before she starts daycare but she'll be working from home for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully Emma will start sleeping longer during the night. Right now at night, we usually have a feedings around 11PM, 2:30-3:00AM, 4:30-5:00AM and then again around 7:30AM. I had a couple days last week that my day started at 4:30AM. Energy drinks are my friend right now.. :)

Emma's doing pretty good. She seems like she might have grown a little bit to us but it's hard to tell. She looks around a lot and lifts her head when she's on her stomach. Caitlin has been very helpful with her. This morning Emma was crying and we heard Caitlin run into her room and check on her. Then she ran to our room and said, "Emma's crying in her room. Come on guys!" and started pulling us to Emma's room! It was so sweet to see her concern for her sister. She'll also come tell us that Emma needs milk and will bring Emma the bottle when it's time for Emma to eat. When Emma cries, Caitlin will also pat her on the head and say, "It's OK baby."

Yesterday we all went to Cousin Maddie's 1st birthday party. We had a lot of fun and Caitlin was extremely shy around all of the people. She eventually opened up a bit and seemed to have fun playing with Maddie. I can't believe Maddie is already 1! I can't remember her being as small as Emma! It seems like Maddie was born just a couple of months ago, not a year ago! The funniest part of the party was watching Maddie with her cake. She put her hand in the frosting and immediately started crying. She didn't want anything to do with the cake and continued crying until her mom cleaned her hand off. It was cute to watch. :)

Hopefully Emma will start sleeping a little longer this week but we'll see what happens. I hope everyone has a great week!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2011 everyone! I can't believe it's 2011! 2010 turned out to be a very good year for us and I hope that magic continues into the new year. Looking back over this blog, I can honestly say that these last 3 years have probably been the best years of my adult life. We spent New Year's Eve trying in vain to get some sleep. Between Emma waking up and the constant fireworks going off on our street, sleep was pretty hard to come by.
This week was another busy week for us. On Christmas afternoon Grampa Andres, Aunt Cuqui, Uncle Fernando and Cousins Steven and Lissette came out to spend a few days and meet Emma. Emma still has her days and nights mixed up so we're still running on anywhere between 2-3 hours of uninterrupted sleep right now. I feel like a zombie pretty much all the time and I think going back to work is going to be pretty rough. I'm going back tomorrow and Toni has another 3 weeks off. On Friday Toni watched the girls for me so that I could take a break and go see Tron Legacy. I really enjoyed the movie and had fun couple of hours.
Caitlin continues to be pretty helpful around the house with Emma and is talking more than ever! This week she started saying "I love you too mommy/daddy" (depending on who she was talking to). It's such a nice thing to hear her say. :) I'm going to keep this post short but I hope everyone has a great 2011!
