Today we had our first visit with the Genetic Sonogram Doctor and everything looks good so far! We were able to hear the baby's heartbeat thumping along at 161 beats per minute. It sounded so cool to hear. The baby was also moving around quite a bit and was very photogenic. We even got a good picture of one of the hands (2nd pic). We also got to see the baby stretching and it looks like he/she already has very long legs! It's still too early to tell the sex but we were told that we would probably find out in about a month or so. I asked the Doctor why we were seeing them so early (with Caitlin we didn't have the genetic sonogram until month 4). I was concerned that maybe the Doctor had seen something wrong that she hadn't told us. To the contrary, they told us that medicine has changed a lot in the last 2 years and that things that they couldn't see until the 2nd trimester when Toni was pregnant with Caitlin can now be seen much earlier on! It blows my mind that medicine has changed that much in such a short amount of time! With everything showing up fine on the sonogram we're just waiting on blood test results to see if everything looks good. It was comforting to hear that at least everything on the sonogram looks good. Hopefully Toni's blood tests will come back in the next few days and there won't be any problems. The other major difference in this pregnancy compared to last time is that sonograms will be a monthly occurrence this time so it looks like we'll have plenty of pics! Toni has an appointment on Wednesday afternoon for a diabetes training class. The Doctor is going to go over diet and exercise stuff with her to help her keep everything under control. Today marks the completion of week 12. Hopefully week 13 will be a good one! :)
